Your flight chiefs constantly bring up their “plans” for you. Your “friends” belittle you. You’re no longer welcomed in your shop because a. They are jealous they don’t get to yet. or b. They re-enlisted and hate their lives.
I got out and succeeded
I got out in 2017 from active duty. Spent 2 years in the reserves that were mostly a waste of time. Spent the last 3 years in college full time going for a degree in cyber security. A few weeks ago I was offered a job as a cyber analyst at a fortune 500 company making over double what I ever made as an active duty airman.

I’m extremely proud of my deployment but I also witnessed some things that have tormented me long afterwards. I have mementos hung up on my walls and look at them proudly, but then I glance down in despair. Couple of contradictory emotions that follow me around pretty much daily

Fired, Yet Relieved
So, today I was let go from my accounting job at a private company in Southern California. Needless to say, I wasn’t mad or upset about this, I was quite frankly relieved. The CEO of the company was commingling funds with personal expenses (House rents and deposits for his children’s moms, DUI attorney fees, trips to Cabo, etc).
Loneliness completely sucks
I’ve been out since October 2020, and the amount of loneliness you experience is insane. I went from talking and being friends with an insane amount of people to seeing nobody ever.

How do you respond to someone who says the military is just a job you chose to do?
So I'm a medically retired 100% disabled Army veteran and I had a "friend" text me today asking if I feel appreciated for my service. This is not a topic I would ever bring up, I don't even advertise my prior service to most people but he asked and I told him that frankly I don't think people really give a shit about the military anymore.
