How does CalWORKs work with child support?
If the custodial party is receiving CalWORKs benefits, child support payments (except the first $50 of current support collected each month) go toward paying back the county, state and federal governments for CalWORKs payments. First let me start by saying that I'm grateful for any amount of help that I'm receiving but when I applied on the Calfresh website it said congratulations you qualify for $250 a month!! I was thrilled. But, after the phone interview and approval, I learned that they deduct 30% of my income from that $250 a month.
