IS THERE A LUMP SUM DEATH BENEFIT? If you die while receiving pension benefits, a lump sum payment of $1,000 will be paid to your designated beneficiary as a death benefit. This benefit is in addition to any other survivor's benefit that may apply.

The minimum retirement age for service retirement for most members is 50 years with five years of service credit. The more service credit you have, the higher your retirement benefits will be.

You must have earned at least five Years of Vesting Service to earn the right to a pension at retirement.

To be vested (eligible to receive your retirement benefits from the Basic Benefit plan if you leave Federal service before retiring), you must have at least 5 years of creditable civilian service. Survivor and disability benefits are available after 18 months of civilian service.

LIFE INSURANCE BENEFIT To change your beneficiary, you must notify the 1199SEIU LPN Fund in writing. After your death, your beneficiary may name a person to receive any amount, which would be paid to the beneficiary's estate. Your spouse's Life Insurance coverage is $8,000.
