How to know when a package will arrive at FedEx?
When you make a purchase, the shipper gives you an estimated ship date and/or arrival date. Sometimes your package ships early. When it arrives at our facility, it is sorted to the correct delivery route and goes out on the delivery truck in the morning. Many times we get the package sooner than promised, but we don’t routinely hold onto it for a particular delivery date. If you follow your shipment info online and believe your package will arrive sooner than you want, you can contact FedEx and provide your tracking number, and ask that the package be held at the terminal for your pick-up. Alternately, you can ask to have it sent to a FedEx Office location and you can pick it up there. Hope this helps.

But if a package that is due Thursday, for instance, arrives at the station Wednesday, typically it is up to the actual courier to determine whether they take it on road. They base this decision on how heavy they are today and how heavy they anticipate being the following day. It also varies based on managements discretion to only deliver packages that are due that day, along with reattempts from the previous day OR to take everything on road. This changes all of the time, sometimes with no reason given. However, the biggest reason is to give the customer what they paid for. This reasoning should make perfect sense, but I was always having to explain it to customers. No one would go to a restaurant, ordering a hamburger and then expect to get a steak, but it happens all of the time with delivery companies. I paid for three day service because it was a LOT cheaper than the next day, but if my package comes in the next day you should have to bring it to me. That doesn’t really make sense does it? If the package is showing at the final station, you should, in most cases, be able to call and go pick it up though. The only other reason is for international packages being held up in Customs. That is something that no carrier has control over.
