
What happens to my VSP benefits if I Lose my job?
If you’ve recently lost your job, you may be eligible to continue your health insurance, including your VSP vision care benefits for up to 18 months with COBRA. Coverage will continue to apply to family members and dependents who were originally covered under your plan.
How do I look up my VSP benefits?
Tell your VSP network eye doctor that you have VSP and they can pull up your benefit information for you. You will need to provide your Member ID Number. You can look up your in-network benefits by logging in or creating a vsp.com account. There are no claim forms to complete when you see a VSP network doctor or provider.
Can I use my VSP plan and Medicare benefits?
VSP Vision Care does not coordinate benefits with Medicare. In other words, you can't use $150 of frame allowance from a VSP plan and add $50 of allowance from a Medicare plan to get a $200 frame fully covered. You would use one plan's benefit or the other. Check your Medicare plan to see if your vision care needs are covered.
How does the VSP frame benefit work?
Your VSP frame benefit offers you the freedom to choose from a wide selection of frames that complement your lifestyle. Most of our members use their benefits with a VSP network doctor. Calendar year vision benefits Many plans are on a calendar year cycle. This means they renew on January 1st no matter when you used them last.

How often can you get new glasses with insurance?

Can eye prescription change in 6 months?
This can occur over one month but can be up to three months. The root cause of this change is from a change in how well the lens inside of our eye bends light also known as the refractive index.
Can I keep my frames and get new lenses?
Typically, optical shops will replace the lenses for you if your frames are in good condition and the shape of the lenses isn't too complicated. Other options include online retailers Lensabl and EyeglassX, which specialize in prescription lenses for existing glasses.
Can I use an old prescription for glasses?
No, you cannot use an expired eyeglass prescription to buy new glasses. The reason for this is simple: our eyes change as we age, and a prescription from several years ago may no longer guarantee clear vision. You may not realize how much your vision has deteriorated since your last eye exam.
How many pairs of glasses in a 12 month period will a vision expense insurance plan cover?
Two pairs of glasses may be received from a member doctor when the benefits are coordinated. The deductible, if any, will apply to the second pair of glasses.
Do you pay for frames and lenses separately?
Eyeglass purchases should include metal frames, nose pads and lenses. In some cases, the retailers may list separate charges for the frames and the lenses. What happens if you exceed your VSP plan?
If you exceed your plan allowance, you'll be responsible for paying the overage in addition to any applicable copays at the time of your visit. Check to see if your VSP plan has coverage for contact lenses. If you choose contacts, you may not be eligible to receive any frame and lenses during the same service period.

If you see an out-of-network provider, you typically have 12 months to submit a claim. To submit an Out-Of-Network claim: Be sure your receipts have been scanned and are accessible by your computer. Log in to your vsp.com account. Click on View Your Benefits, then My Benefits. Click on Submit an Out-of-Network Claim.

How far retroactive can updates be effective (changes, adds, terms, reinstates and transfers)?
Updates can have a retroactive effective date retro to 2 months plus the current month. This includes adds, changes, terminations, reinstates and transfers.
How do I change a member's coverage start date?
A member's coverage start date cannot be changed using Manage Eligibility. Please contact the Client Support Center at (800) 216-6248 for assistance.
How do I add a middle initial to a member or dependent name?
In the First Name field, enter the first name, a space and the middle initial.
How do I reinstate a terminated member and move them to a different division and class?
First reinstate the member under the previous division and then transfer the member to the new division/class on the Member Details Screen. Reinstate the member with the same effective date you wish to transfer to the division.
How do I update a member to reflect a COBRA status?
If you have a separate COBRA division, transfer the member to the active COBRA division.
Should I send paperwork to VSP for eligibility changes?
It is not necessary to send paperwork to VSP. With VSP's online Manage Eligibility tool, your changes have already been saved to our system.

Claims employees frazzled day in and out
I have to say I am a bit new. I’ve never been in insurance and I have never experienced anything like being a liability adjuster. Claims is a different animal.
Adjusters are SWAMPED
Hey all- coming from a close friend of an auto insurance adjuster. The adjuster I speak of has spoken to adjusters from any insurance company you can think of. Car deemed a total loss, but insurance offered too little to replace
My husband's mint Chevy Astro was totalled recently. The insurance company has offered about $5K, citing comps that do not have the same features or mileage (40K more milage, 2WD instead of AWD, and have duct tape on the seats/are basically trashed when we have photos that show the van was in excellent condition).
Help with finding therapist without parents finding out
I’m looking to get a therapist through insurance but don’t want my parents (who the insurance is under) to find out. My dad works for a hospital and has an HMO plan through Northshore (a health system in IL). I am not quite sure how to even find a therapist and unsure abt how to navigate through it in general.

So I just took a trip to Florida keys and when driving back to northern illinois a warning started on my 2014 chevy cruse disease (142k miles) about overheating. So I pulled over and looked at the engine and the coolant reserve was empty. So I waited 12 minutes in the 3 degree farenheit weather.
