The order expands eligibility to:
- Workers who were denied unemployment benefits after they refused to work in unsafe conditions
- School staff and employees who have been affected by school closures through reduced pay or who are not assured of continued pay
- Any worker who had their work hours reduced or who lost their job as a direct result of the Covid-19 pandemic
What are extended unemployment benefits?
Extended benefits are additional weeks of unemployment compensation that are available to workers who have exhausted regular unemployment insurance benefits during periods of high unemployment. The basic Extended Benefits (EB) program provides up to 13 additional weeks of unemployment compensation when a state is experiencing high unemployment. 1
How do I know if I am eligible for extended unemployment?
Eligibility requirements vary by state, so be sure to check the FAQ section of your state unemployment websites for details. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities has a map which shows the extended unemployment benefits available in each state.
How do I qualify for extended benefits?
To qualify for EB, you must have: at least one week in your benefit year that begins in an EB eligibility period. While receiving Extended Benefits (EB), you must make a systematic and sustained search for work. The EB program has different work search requirements than regular unemployment insurance.
Who is not eligible for unemployment benefits?

How do you qualify for extended EDD benefits?
To be eligible for FED-ED, you must have had enough earnings in the base period of your regular unemployment claim. Your total base period earnings must have been more than either of these: 40 times the weekly benefit amount. 1.5 times the earnings in the highest quarter of the base period of your regular UI claim.
Will Edd be extended after September 2021?
Note: Federal-State Extended Duration (FED-ED) benefits are no longer payable for weeks of unemployment after September 11. The federal government does not allow benefit payments to be made for weeks of unemployment after these programs end, even if you have a balance left on your claim.

Do I need to reapply for EDD 2021?
You must reapply for a new claim if you earned enough wages in the last 18 months and are still unemployed or working part time. We will notify you when your new claim is processed. This usually takes two to three weeks.
